The war sword was longer and slightly heavier than the arming sword. It was used only by highly-trained knights or men-at-arms.

How was it used?

The war sword was light enough to be used in one hand, but there was also room on the longer grip for both hands if the user chose to fight that way.

The longer blade allowed the war sword to cut huge, lethal arches through the air and through the enemy. As well as delivering very powerful cuts, lethal thrusts could also be made with the war sword’s sharp point.

When swung two-handed it might cut through textile armour and could break bones through mail. It could probably also crack open hardened leather armour, and dent metal plate.
