Who was he?

As a knight from south-east Scotland, he had sided with King Edward to protect his lands, which were vulnerable to English attacks. Seton started the battle on the side of the English, but finished it on Bruce’s side.

At Bannockburn

On the night after 23 June, Seton slipped away from the demoralised English army and made his way to Bruce’s camp. He told Bruce of the low spirits and dissatisfaction in the English camp and urged Bruce to challenge Edward again. This crucial piece of information helped convince Bruce to enact the plan he had been working on for weeks.

After Bannockburn

Seton remained a supporter of Bruce in the years after Bannockburn. He served as steward of the royal household and even looked after Bruce's son David after his birth in 1324.
