On 23 June, Bruce ordered his ‘sma’ folk’ to take his army’s baggage and belongings out of sight and reach of the English army. They may have retreated to a small valley to the north of Coxet Hill – but may well have watched the proceedings from the hill’s vantage point. Another location may have been Gillies Hill.
